What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that helps to reduce pain from twisting and tugging of the labia. It is essentially a labia minor reduction surgery. Labiaplasty is also performed to correct asymmetric labia.

How is labiaplasty performed?

There are two way to perform labiaplasty; a trim labiaplasty is the most common technique and a wedge labiaplasty.Clitoral hood reduction and perineal skin trimming can be performed.

Anesthesia for labiaplasty

The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthetic.

Labiaplasty recovery

Recovery is usually straightforward. Pain is controlled with oral pain medication and with local ice pack.

Intercourse should be avoided for six week. Patient usually stay off work for about one week.

Most of the swelling will resolve in six weeks. But some residual swelling may take up to six months to disappear.

Labiaplasty risks

In general, labiaplasty is a safe procedure. Bleeding and infection can happen. Over- resection is the most common complication. Proper techniques will prevent this complication. However, some patient may experience dryness, scarring and pain on intercourse.
