Blepharoplasty in San Diego

Personal Attention & Specialized Care

What is a Blepharoplasty procedure?

The eyes are one of the most mobile and expressive features of the face. But as we get older, wrinkles, bags and other signs of aging can make our eyes appear tired, sad or worn. Eye bags treatment, also known as lower blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to give you a fresher, well-rested appearance.

When to Choose Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty is used to rejuvenate the eyes by removing fat deposits and loose skin beneath the lower eyelids.

You may be a good candidate for lower blepharoplasty if:

  • You have bags and puffiness around your eyes
  • You have deep wrinkles or loose skin
  • Your eyes appear sad, tired or worn
  • You have dark circles under your eyes

Lower blepharoplasty can do wonders for restoring a youthful, rested look to your entire face. Treatment can be performed on adults of all ages, but the average patient is 35 years of age or older. Generally speaking, good health is a better indicator of your candidacy than age.

After Lower Blepharoplasty in San Diego

Expect some moderate swelling, bruising and discomfort during your recovery. You’ll be able to return home the same day, but you should plan on spending the first couple of days in bed resting with your head elevated. You will need to attend a follow up visit within a week of surgery to have your stitches removed. At this point, most patients feel comfortable resuming work and other routines. Exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for a least a month.

The vast majority of swelling should resolve within two weeks, but it may take an additional two months before your final results are visible. Most residual swelling will only be noticeable to you. During your consultation, we can provide a detailed recovery timeline.

All surgical procedures, including lower blepharoplasty, present a degree of risk and uncertainty. These risks will be discussed in depth during your consultation. Though rare, risks may include unfavorable scarring, bleeding, infection, asymmetry, adverse reaction to anesthesia, temporary blurred vision and unsatisfactory results.

Before and After Lower Blepharoplasty / Eye Bags Treatment

The best candidates are healthy, do not smoke and have realistic expectations of surgery. It’s important to note that lower blepharoplasty cannot address sagging upper eyelids or eyebrows. We can determine if lower blepharoplasty is right for you during a personal consultation.

Lower Blepharoplasty with Dr. Jaibaji

Lower blepharoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure that can be performed under general or local anesthesia combined with sedation. Once you’re comfortable, we will make small incisions just below your lower eyelashes. Incisions are carefully placed so they aren’t visible after recovery. In some cases, incisions may be hidden inside the lower eyelids.

Through the incisions, skin and muscle will be repositioned and tightened. Excess fat will be removed. At the conclusion of surgery, all incisions will be closed with fine sutures. In some cases, lower blepharoplasty may be combined with a laser chemical peel to erase discoloration beneath the eyes.
