Liposuction in San Diego
Personal Attention & Specialized Care
Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove excess deposits of fat on men and women. This popular body contouring procedure can address multiple areas of the body. It is sometimes referred to as liposculpture, lipoplasty, lipo, and suction lipectomy.
Benefits of Liposuction
The main advantage of liposuction is its consistent, dramatic results, especially compared to non-surgical fat reduction modalities such as Coolsculpting. Another benefit is the ability to treat more than one area. Liposuction can eliminate many months of attempted dieting and exercise and can be more cost effective.

Who is a Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is beneficial for those who are in good health and have worked hard to get in shape. They have lost some of their extra weight but can’t seem to get rid of those troublesome deposits of fat in key areas, no matter how diligent and devoted they are. Liposuction is the final step to removing the stubborn fat. During your consultation Dr. Jaibaji will determine if you are a candidate for this surgery.
An ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who:
- – Is in good health.
- – Has a BMI under 30
- – Does not smoke
- – Sets realistic expectations
Patients should be aware that liposuction is never a weight loss procedure and is therefore not a treatment for obesity. If a person’s body mass index is over 30, he or she may want to consider weight loss prior to liposuction.
Areas of the Body Liposuction Can Treat
Stomach liposuction and waist/flanks
This is the most common area to get lipo.
Hips and thighs
Dr. Jaibaji can treat the inner and outer thighs.
Back
This area is usually done along with the stomach and waist to more completely contour the midsection.
Breast Liposuction
Liposuction of the breast is done either to reduce the breast size, provide symmetry to the breasts or to contour the excess fat around the breast in areas such as the axilla or upper stomach.
Arms and chest
Lipo of the upper arm is usually done with skin tuck surgery or a sole procedure. In addition, the surgery can be extended to the side of the chest.
Around the knees
Many women would like to get rid of the fat pockets around the knee area to improve the contour of the knee. Moreover, it will create a harmonious transition from the thigh to the leg.
Chin
This is a very common area to undergo liposuction. The procedure creates a more chiseled and youthful jawline and neck.
Calves and Ankles
Excess fat in those areas is usually addressed with liposuction.
Types of Liposuction
Common types of liposuction include:
Tumescent liposuction: The most popular form of liposuction uses a sterile solution to help break up fat. This liquid is subsequently suctioned out.
Power-assisted liposuction: Here, the cannula rapidly vibrates to make the process of breaking up and removing fat much quicker.
Laser-assisted liposuction: Also known as Smart Lipo, the heat from the laser in this procedure helps to melt the fat and make it easier to remove.
High-definition liposuction: This procedure uses ultrasound energy to help sculpt the body for sleeker contours as the fat cells are removed.
Liposuction Surgery Details
Most cases of liposuction are performed under general anesthesia or sedation. However, small-area liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Jaibaji can advise on the best anesthesia technique. Once the patient is asleep, the treated area is cleansed with an antiseptic.
Incisions are made for the liposuction cannulas. The incisions are usually 3-5 mm long. They are placed in areas where the scars conceal easily.
Fluid is injected into the treated area. This fluid is called tumescent fluid and it makes the surgery easier to perform with much less bleeding. The fat is aspirated with a special tube called a cannula. The size and shape of the cannula will depend on the treated area.
Once the required amount of fat is removed and the results are achieved the incisions will be closed with an absorbable suture.
Liposuction Recovery
After surgery, the treated area will be dressed with a sterile dressing and a compression garment will be applied. If general anesthesia or sedation was used, the patient will need to stay in the recovery room for one or two hours. A family member or friend can wait with the patient in the recovery room and then take the patient home.
Dr. Jaibaji usually sees his patients after liposuction the day after surgery. The dressings will be changed and the garments will be reapplied. Patients can typically shower the day after surgery.
Discomfort can be controlled with prescription pain medications. The swelling starts to subside after three weeks. Bruising usually lasts for the same time span. The treated area can be uncomfortable for up to six weeks.
Light exercise can be resumed after three weeks. Dr. Jaibaji will advise on driving.
Liposuction Results
Since it may take up to six months for all the swelling to subside, patients may see gradual improvement to the treatment area over that time until the full results are evident. The scars, however, will continue to improve. They generally fade after about one year and can take up to two years. Scarring can be improved with over-the-counter scar treatments or with the use of bioCorneum. bioCorneum is a silicone-based scar treatment that will soften the scars and heal faster.
Complementary Procedures
Liposuction can be combined with other procedures. Skin-lifting procedures like tummy tuck, body lift, arm lift and thigh lift are most common to achieve attractive contours. Because loose skin may appear after fat comes off, skin tightening surgery helps to create a sleek, youthful look to the targeted areas.
Liposuction Cost in San Diego
Liposuction cost depends on the number of areas treated and if additional procedures are combined with liposuction. Patients are to undergo an initial consultation so that Dr. Jaibaji can discuss treatment options and the office staff can determine the cost of the procedure. The price includes facility costs, anesthesia and professional fees. Liposuction is an elective procedure and is therefore not covered by most insurance plans. Financing options are available through CareCredit.
Liposuction FAQs
How many pounds can I lose with liposuction?
Dr. Jaibaji stresses that liposuction is not a weight loss surgery. To lose a significant amount of weight, you should first try diet and exercise, or perhaps bariatric surgery. Results are most impressive on patients who are within 10 pounds of their goal weight who are having difficulty shedding the remaining stubborn pockets of fat.
How long will my liposuction results last?
Fat cells removed with liposuction are gone from the body permanently. You can enjoy your liposuction results indefinitely, so long as you maintain a steady weight moving forward. Patients who choose to have liposuction again typically do so to treat a different area of the body.
What happens if I gain weight after having liposuction?
A small amount of weight should not do much to alter your body contouring results. However, if you put on a significant amount of weight, your proportions may start to look awkward because new fat will distribute to the fat cells in other regions of the body.
Is liposuction a good way to treat cellulite?
Liposuction will not correct cellulite. It may even make cellulite worse. There are treatments for cellulite, but liposuction is not one of them. During a consultation, Dr. Jaibaji can suggest other treatments for cellulite.

Type of Liposuction used: Super Wet Technique Liposuction Liposuction Treated Areas: Waist This San Diego liposuction patient was concerned about the shape of her abdomen. She had extended tummy tuck and liposuction and the sides. The abdominoplasty procedure begins with an incision made from hip to hip, typically placed just below the bikini-line. Dr. Jaibaji will make this incision as discreetly as possible, and any residual scarring can be easily hidden under clothing or swimwear. Dr. Jaibaji will separate the navel from the skin and then tighten the underlying muscles, a step that narrows the waistline and firms up the midsection. Excess fat is removed, the navel is repositioned, and the skin is pulled taut around the stomach. The incision is then closed with sutures. The entire procedure typically takes about two to four hours to complete and is usually performed under general anesthesia. A tummy tuck can be performed on an outpatient basis. It is essential that you arrange for someone to take you home and stay with you after your extended tummy tuck procedure.
