Liposuction San Diego

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure to remove excess fat from certain areas of the body. It is considered a body contouring procedure. It can address more than one area.

Liposuction is also called liposculpture, lipoplasty, lipo, and suction lipectomy. These are many terms for essentially the same procedure.

What are the main advantages of liposuction?

The main advantage of liposuction compared to the treatment modalities is that is gives a more consistent, predictable and dramatic results in one surgery. More than one treated area is also an advantage of liposuction

What areas of the body can liposuction correct?

  • Abdomen and waist/flanks
  • Hips and thighs
  • Back
  • Arms and chest
  • Around the knees
  • Neck and chin
  • Calf and ankles

Liposuction can be combined with other procedures such as tummy tuck, breast augmentation and fat transfer ( Brazilian Butt lift). You can check Dr. Jaibaji Before and after gallery to see the amazing transformation.

Is liposuction a good way to lose weight or treat cellulite?

Liposuction is never a weight loss procedure and therefore it is not a treatment for obesity. If you body mass index is over 30 you may want to consider weight loss prior to liposuction.

For cellulite, liposuction will not correct it. There are other treatments for cellulite and liposuction is not one of them. Dr. Jaibaji will advise about the treatment for cellulite.

How can I tell if I am a candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction is beneficial for someone who is in good health and has worked hard to get in shape. They lose some extra pounds, but can’t seem to get rid of those troublesome deposits of fat in key areas, no matter how diligent and devoted they work at it. Liposuction will help in removing the stubborn fat. During your consultation Dr. Jaibaji will determine if you are a candidate for this surgery.

A good candidate for liposuction is someone who is:

1- In good heath.

2- BMI under 30

3- Non smoker

4- Has realistic expectations

How is the procedure performed?

Most cases of liposuction are performed under general anesthesia or sedation. Small area liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia.  Dr. Jaibaji can advise you on the best anesthesia technique for your liposuction. Once the patient is asleep, the treated area is cleansed with and antiseptic. Incisions are made for the liposuction cannulas. The incisions are usually 3-5 mm long and they are usually places in hidden areas to conceal the scars. These incisions are usually closed at the end of surgery. Fluid is infected into the treated area. This fluid is called Tumescent fluid. It will make the surgery easier to perform and less bleeding. The fat is then aspirated with a special tube called cannula. The size and shape of the cannula will depend on the treated area.

One the required amount of fat is removed and the results are achieved the incisions will be closed with an absorbable suture.

Special garments are applied at the end of the procedure.

Are there any risks from the procedure?

Like any surgical procedure liposuction carry some risks. With proper  planning and preparation and choosing the right plastic surgeon these risks are minimized.

Dr. Jaibaji will discuss the risks of liposuction with you during your consultation.  Some of those risks are:

Anesthesia risks, brushing, seroma ( fluid accumulation), numbness in the treated area, infection, rippling, swelling and worsening of cellulite.

Explain the recovery process from liposuction?

After surgery, the treated area will be dressed with a sterile dressing and a compression garments is applied. If general anesthesia or sedation was used you will need to stay in the recovery room for 1-2 hours. Your family member or a friend can be with you in the recovery room. Your family member or friend will also take you home.

Dr. Jaibaji usually see his patients after liposuction the day after surgery. The dressings will be changed and the garments will be reapplied. In general, you can shower the day after surgery. Pain is controlled with prescribe pain medications. The swelling will start to subside after three weeks. Bruising usually lasts for 2-3 week. The treated area can be uncomfortable for unto six weeks.

Light exercise can be resumed after three weeks. Dr. Jaibaji will advise on driving.

When will I see the final results?

It will take unto six months for all the swelling to subside. So you will see constant improvement in the treated area unto six months. Anything after six months is likely to be permanent. The scars however will continue to improve. It will fade after about one year and can take up to two years.

Scarring can be improved with over the counter scar treatments or with the use of bioCorneum. bioConeum is a silicone base scar treatment the will soften the scars and heal faster.

Liposuction is commonly performed with other body procedures such as tummy tuck and breast augmentation.
This patient had extended tummy tuck and liposuction of the sides.During liposuction, Dr. Jaibaji will insert a thin, hollow tube called a cannula into the area of excess fat. The incision made to allow this insertion is very small and can be easily hidden. The cannula will be eased back and forth under the skin, gently vacuuming out fat cells. The incision will then be closed. Depending upon the size of area designated for treatment, the entire liposuction procedure typically takes less than two hours to complete. Liposuction is often performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia.

Body Contouring Procedure: Liposuction and Extended tummy tuck San Diego.
Type of Liposuction used: Super Wet Technique Liposuction
Liposuction Treated Areas: Waist

This San Diego liposuction patient was concerned about the shape of her abdomen. She had extended tummy tuck and liposuction and the sides. The abdominoplasty procedure begins with an incision made from hip to hip, typically placed just below the bikini-line. Dr. Jaibaji will make this incision as discreetly as possible, and any residual scarring can be easily hidden under clothing or swimwear. Dr. Jaibaji will separate the navel from the skin and then tighten the underlying muscles, a step that narrows the waistline and firms up the midsection. Excess fat is removed, the navel is repositioned, and the skin is pulled taut around the stomach. The incision is then closed with sutures. The entire procedure typically takes about two to four hours to complete and is usually performed under general anesthesia. A tummy tuck can be performed on an outpatient basis. It is essential that you arrange for someone to take you home and stay with you after your extended tummy tuck procedure.
