Breast reduction surgery
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia. The breasts are marked before surgery. The patient is taken to the operating room. While under general anesthesia Dr. Jaibaji will remove the excess breast tissue, reposition the nipple areola complex to a lifted position. And then close the skin with dissolvable sutures.
The amout of tissue removed is usually weighed and equal amount of breast tissue taken from each breast. At the end of the procedure a special tape will be applied and a surgical bra is used. Drains are usually not used for breast reduction.
How long does the procedure take to complete
Breast reduction takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The surgery is usually performed at an out patient facility. However, Some patient may need to stay overnight at the facility for full recovery.
Breast reduction scars
The scars after breast reduction will depend on the type of reduction. In vertical scar breast reduction there is no cut at the fold under the breast and hence the scar is shorter. Non the less, scarring will vary from one patient to another. Some patient will have very good and thin scars and others may develop wide and think scars. Rarely, we see keloid scaring in breast reduction.
During your consultation with Dr. Jaibaji, the scars will be addressed. We recommend using scar treatment after surgery such as bioCorneum.
Can the breast get bigger after a reduction surgery?

Breast reduction cost?
Breast reduction is usually covered by your insurance. If you have no insurance, or the procedure is denied by your insurance carrier then the cost is $10,000- $12,000. If you elect to have additional procedures such as tummy tuck or liposuction, then the cost is higher. Financing is available with Care Credit when needed.
Breast reduction and lift

In both procedures the nipple will be lifted to the appropriate location.

Generally speaking, most insurances will cover breast reduction surgery. You have to meet the insurance criteria to get approved for the surgery. Breast reduction has to be a benefit in your policy to get the process started. You can check with your local plastic surgeon about the insurance requirement. Generally speaking, you have to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Your information will be submitted for the approval process.
Can a man get a breast reduction?
Yes. In men the condition is called gynecomastia or male boobs or male breast reduction. If the gynecomastia is large then a breast reduction surgery is required.
Liposuction’s Role in Breast Reduction Surgery
Liposuction can play a role in breast reduction surgery. It is commonly used to treat the axilla and remove fat from that area. This will help in reducing the size of axillary skin and fat roll.
Liposuction is also used to remove the pre axillary fat pads. These are small swellings along the outer edge of the pectoralis muscle. Liposuction is performed by making a very small incision in the axilla.
Occasionally liposuction is used to remove breast fat as a sole technique for breast reduction.
Liposuction can also used to remove excess fat from other parts of the body during the breast reduction surgery. These areas include the waists, the abdomen and the neck.
Will I be able to breast feed after breast reduction?
Most women who undergo breast reduction will be able to breast feed. The incidence of breast feeding ism the same as women who had not had breast surgery.
There is however, one instance where a patient can not breast feed. This is after a free nipple graft. In this case, the nipple is detached completely from the breast and then grafted to the skin.
Will the nipple be detached during breast reduction?
This a common question. In general, the nipples will be moved to its new location without detaching it from the breast tissue. This has the advantage of maintaining nipple sensation and future breast feeding.
Breast reduction revision surgery
Breast reduction is normally performed to relieve symptoms of shoulder, neck and back pain. The results are usually very satisfactory and complication rate is very low.
However, Some women will require a breast reduction revision. The most common reasons for breast reduction revision are:
1- Inadequate breast tissue removal.
2- Breast is too small or too much breast tissue removed.
3- Scar revision for thick, hypertrophic, or keloid scars. This can be around the areola or on the skin.
4- Removal of a breast mass or fat necrosis. Most fat necrosis will resolve over a period of 3 months to 6 months. If persist, then removal is necessary.
5- Nipple reconstruction for patient will nipple loss.
6- Balancing procedure; if one side is bigger.
7- Recurrence of the hypertrophy.
