Brazilian Butt Lift in San Diego
Personal Attention & Specialized Care
Brazilian butt lift surgery or buttock augmentation also widely called BBL is a popular cosmetic procedure that involves the surgical insertion of fat into a patient’s buttocks. Fat transfer can greatly enhance the natural curvatures of your figure, while also creating a more sculpted body profile.
Choosing BBL Surgery
Buttock fat surgery is a very individualized procedure. People who wish to enlarge, lift or reshape their backsides may benefit significantly from BBL. Therefore, the best candidates for this method of buttock enhancement should meet the following criteria:
- 18 years of age or older
- Good physical and mental health
- Have a strong desire to improve appearance
- Have realistic expectations
Following butt fat transfer, patients can anticipate improved shape, size and definition of the gluteal muscles in the buttocks region. Patients also may benefit from increased self-esteem and body confidence. However, despite the many aesthetic advantages of Brazilian butt fat transfer, this procedure may not be for everyone. The best way to determine if you are an ideal candidate is to schedule a consultation with a board certified cosmetic surgeon.

Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Details
BBL is usually performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient facility. The first step is harvesting the fat from the body. Dr. Jaibaji performs liposuction on the stomach, waist, back, thighs and/or arms. This will not only provide the necessary fat to augment the buttock but also help to reshape and sculpt the midsection.
The fat is harvested with a special fat cannula that is different from the standard liposuction cannula. After the fat is harvested, it is purified and prepared for injection. This is done by placing the fat in syringes and injecting it with a special cannula. Dr. Jaibaji will inject the fat in an orderly manner to create the optimum, smooth and uniform shape to the buttock. The technique ensures maximum fat cell survival. The injections are made through tiny incisions in the buttock to create easily concealed scars. The amount of fat transferred to the buttocks will depend on the patient’s goals, amount of fat available and the size of the buttock.
Brazilian butt lift Surgery with Dr. Jaibaji
Buttock augmentation is an outpatient procedure that requires general anesthesia. Your surgeon will begin by making small incisions underneath each buttock, or in the natural crease of the buttocks near the tail bone. Through the incision, a pocket will be created in the gluteal muscle to hold the buttock implants in place.
Your surgeon will then insert implants composed of solid silicone into place, positioning them to look as natural and symmetrical as possible. Incisions will be secured with dissoluble sutures and bandaged with a compression garment to minimize discomfort and swelling.
The length of the procedure depends on the amount of fat transferred to the buttock. For smaller volumes of fat, the surgery will last about two hours. Large-volume fat graft can last 3-4 hours. Dr. Jaibaji will discuss the duration of surgery during your consultation.
Understanding Fat Transfer/Grafting
Fat grafting has been used extensively in recent years for both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Fat is used for breast enhancement, gluteal augmentation, face fat graft, lip enhancement and in cosmetic surgery. It is also used to correct contour irregularities following liposuction.
What is Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery Like?
Buttock augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure; you should be able to return home within two hours of surgery. Most patients experience significant discomfort for the first several days of recovery and may require the help of a friend or family member to aid in mobility. Prescription pain medication may be provided to help manage discomfort.
Bruising will take two to three weeks to subside. Swelling can take six to eight weeks to subside. Surgical dressings are typically removed within two to three days of surgery, at which point most patients regain most normal mobility. Sitting and sleeping may have to be modified; for example, you may need to use a pillow to avoid pressure on the fat-injected area. In general, patients are able to return to work within a week and resume more strenuous physical activities within a month. However, the full results of your buttock augmentation will develop gradually over several months as the gluteal muscles stretch and swelling fully subsides.
No specific exercises are required after surgery. In the first four weeks, patients are instructed to put minimal pressure on the buttock. Return to exercises is usually allowed after two months. Dr. Jaibaji can advise you on returning to a workout schedule during follow-up appointments.
All surgical procedures present a degree of risk. Dr. Jaibaji will discuss this with you in detail during your consultation. Risks include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, adverse reaction to anesthesia, nerve damage, excessive scarring and an undesirable cosmetic outcome.
No specific exercises are required after surgery. In the first 4 weeks patients are instructed to put minimal pressure on the buttock. Return to exercises is usually allowed after 6-8 weeks. Dr. Jaibaji will advise you about the time to return to your normal workout routine.
Recovery from buttock enhancement surgery is straightforward. You will experience some pain after the surgery and pain medication will be prescribed. It is recommended that you not stay in bed and walking is encouraged. The final outcome of the surgery can take up to 9 months to show.
Brazilian Butt Lift Results
In general, 50-70% of the fat will survive and flourish after surgery. It can take six to nine months before the final results have settled. The surgeon’s technique plays a big role in the success of the results. Results also depend upon the patient’s body habitus. Appropriate fat harvesting and injection and good after-surgery care will ensure optimal results.
Fat that survives the transfer process can remain in your buttocks indefinitely. Be aware, though, that transferred fat behaves like any normal fat and responds to weight fluctuation. Weight gain increases the size of the buttocks, and vice versa for weight loss.
Combining Brazilian Butt Lift with Another Procedure
Many patients choose to get an additional procedure such breast augmentation, tummy tuck or rhinoplasty at the same time as BBL. Having two performed on the same day can help cut down facility and anesthesia costs and allow you to overlap the recovery times. It is important to choose a quality plastic surgeon. You can talk to Dr. Jaibaji about your interest in another procedure.
Cost of Brazilian Butt Lift
The cost of the procedure will depend on the amount of fat transferred. Patients are to undergo an initial consultation so that Dr. Jaibaji can discuss treatment options and the office staff can determine the cost of the procedure. This fee includes the cost of anesthesia, facility and professional fees.. The price is higher if additional procedures (such as breast augmentation) are performed. You have the option to finance the surgery with CareCredit at our office.
Buttock Augmentation with Implants
Buttock augmentation with implants is typically completed in one to two hours and requires general anesthesia. Your surgeon begins by making small incisions underneath each buttock, or in the natural crease of the buttocks near the tailbone. Through the incision, a pocket will be created in the gluteal muscle to hold the buttock implants in place.
Dr. Jaibaji then inserts implants composed of solid silicone into place, positioning them to look as natural and symmetrical as possible. Incisions will be secured with dissoluble sutures and bandaged with a compression garment to minimize discomfort and swelling.
What is the Difference between BBL and Buttock Implants?
There is a significant difference between the two procedures. Butt implant surgery means a silicone implant is placed in the buttock, usually above or inside the gluteal muscle. Therefore, the amount of buttock enhancement is limited by the size of the implant. The main drawback of the implant is the limited size and the fact that it will not enhance the lateral thigh/buttock area. There is also the risk of infection, bleeding, deformity and malposition.
Fat, however, can be placed both in the buttocks and in areas around the buttocks. Therefore, it is a more versatile technique and can produce a better enhancement. The risk of infection and bleeding is much lower. Fat transfer is excellent with meticulous technique. However, patients with a low body fat percentage may not have sufficient fat deposits to transfer, making implants the preferable option.
Recently, surgeons started to combine fat grafting with implants. This technique, called composite buttock augmentation, combines the best of both worlds. The surgery is, however, more expensive, takes longer to perform and requires an experienced plastic surgeon.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs
Can I choose where Dr. Jaibaji harvests the fat used for BBL?
One of the many benefits of choosing BBL is that you also get to choose an area or areas where you would like to liposuction unwanted fat. Dr. Jaibaji may recommend specific areas that have the most excess fat or that will help to enhance the proportions of your buttock, but your own preferences are also a pivotal factor. This decision can be discussed in more detail during a consultation.
What if I want to sit down after Brazilian butt lift?
Dr. Jaibaji encourages you to avoid sitting or lying on your backside in your initial weeks of recovery. Putting pressure on the buttocks can extend the recovery period and diminish the quality of the results. For this reason, you should sleep on your stomach during your recovery and also purchase a special BBL pillow that allows you to sit while putting the pressure on your thighs rather than your butt.
Will gaining weight help me to get a larger butt without the need for cosmetic surgery?
Most people who try to put on extra weight to augment their butt wind up disappointed by the outcome. Unfortunately, you cannot control which parts of your body your excess fat cells accumulate in, so it is much more likely that the fat will distribute evenly around your body rather than concentrating in your buttocks. Therefore, surgery remains the best solution for increasing the size of your butt without simultaneously downgrading the contours elsewhere in your body.
What kind of scars will I have after BBL?
Some scarring is to be expected after a procedure that uses incisions, but Dr. Jaibaji is careful to make them along the body’s natural creases where they are hardest to spot. Scars for BBL are small and should fade significantly with time thanks to Dr. Jaibaji’s advanced techniques. All incisions are in places that can be easily covered with most underwear and bathing suit styles.
